With Google’s announcement of their acquisition of Motorola Mobility, we wondered what this will mean for the other Android manufacturers like HTC, Samsung, LG etc. A while back, Google has released a page with quotes from these manufacturers about their views on the acquisition.
Let us take a look at the statements.

Do you notice how similar each of these statements are. All of them talk about welcoming the acquisition and Google’s commitment to protecting Android and the ecosystem.
Compare the quote from Samsung and HTC. There is practically no difference between the two. The only difference is a few minor wording such as “Google is deeply committed” by HTC and “Google’s deep commitment” from Samsung.
The same is the case for the statements from Sony and LG. The only difference between the two statements is that LG used “We” and Sony used “I”.
So, what is going on here? What are the odds of something like this happening by chance? Almost negligible, I’d say. So, either HTC and Samsung, and LG and Sony employs the same person to write these statements – which too is very unlikely. Or, these companies are stealing these statements from each other – which again is unlikely. Or, Google gave them the statements for them to release – which I find the most likely out of the three.
If that is the case, I wonder what these companies really think about the acquisition. Are they worried that they will be relegated to being second tier manufacturers?
Another thing to notice, if these statements are really coming from Google, is the fact that all of them mention that it is a move to defend Android and its partners. Google seem to be clearly playing the victim card to justify the acquisition of this huge patent trove. It should be noted that Google has spoken out against patents – so, yes they needed to play the victim here.
